Moving home might seem easy before it happens. Unfortunately, when the moving day comes, you realize it can be quite a stressful experience. You can make the transition from the current address to the new one much easier when you are well prepared.

The first difficult step is made – you have already found a new home to move into – it doesn’t matter if you have bought a new property or you are moving into a shared house/flat, moving house is never as easy as it seems. With this said, we would recommend taking notes of future and current tasks so you can be aware of their progress in the time. However, along with ‘’to do‘’, you need to prepare ‘’not to do’’ list. Its importance is equal to things you need to do before you move. You should not allow these common mistakes to give a bitter taste to your moving project.
There are serious moving mistakes you need to avoid, otherwise, one simple move might result in a moving disaster. Take a bit time of your day although we believe it’s busy.  Trust me – the time spent to consider your move will be something you will feel happy for at the end of the day after you realize how wise this time has been spent.

Additionally, we have gathered 10 of the common moving mistakes in this article. We hope they will help you so you can move into your new home successfully.

1.    You think you can do it yourself.

A huge mistake which eventually will get you into trouble. The truth is that even moving into the nearby residential district may turn into an issue when it comes to organization, not no mention moving into the other end of the city or another town. There are a lot of problems which may arise – damaged inventory while transporting (this is why you should hire professionals), not enough space in the loading van (the moving company needs to provide a variety of moving vans depending on your needs), unforeseen expenses, etc. Therefore, give yourself enough time to properly plan everything and avoid trying to deal with everything alone – our specialized movers work fast and are highly-qualified, determined to provide you with a great value for your money. This way, you will bring to zero the risk of damage, exhaustion or stress. For that purpose, you can check in advance with friends and family who have already gone through this experience.

2.    You forget about the unavoidable rush hour.

According to the statistics, the most people are moving in spring or summer months – which means that you need to plan everything in advance, otherwise, you will have to deal with a firsthand company (due to the fact that the others are already taken). That's the reason why we recommend choosing a removal provider at least 2-3 months in advance after you have already made а detailed research of the market.

3.    You haven’t made the overall calculation.

You don’t buy a car or house without knowing their value in advance, right? The same way you should think of your move. Calculate in advance the estimated moving price (transport, insurance, loading, unloading, etc.) as additionally keep yourself informed of eventual additional costs.

4.    You haven’t prepared yourself with insurance.

Most of the removal companies have insurance and they will cover the damages, but you need to be sure beforehand that there will be somebody to compensate you if such an accident happens. Furthermore, you need to be informed of what exactly does a certain insurance include and in what conditions it is paid. The limit indemnity is something you need to know as well.

5.    You haven’t taken into consideration the transportation of the special belongings.

You need to check if the removal company bears the responsibility of transporting valuable belongings –  artwork for example and if it doesn’t, you need to transport them by yourself. It means that you will need to think of a place to keep them safe and way of transportation (with you in the car for instance). In order not to find yourself in unfavourable position at the last minute, read carefully all the clauses of your contract with the moving company. It is written there what the company can transport and what it can’t.  There are moving companies that will refuse to transport your BBQ, gas cooker, firearms, alcohol, etc. For that reason, we recommend discussing these questions in advance in order to avoid the necessity of accomplishing another task at the last minute– searching for an additional space in your car.

6.    You have forgotten to include your pet in the picture.

Along with all the tasks and problems around your move, you can unknowingly forget about the specific needs of your pet. Depending on the place of your move and the kind of your pet, you may need to get specific documents and certificates. You may need to take your pet to the veterinarian so he can make all the necessary examination and vaccine. In addition, you could ask him for advice on how to safely transport your pet. If the animal will be travelling with you in the car and the trip will be long, make sure you have prepared enough water, food, medicine, as for that purpose you need to be prepared with a piece of separate hand luggage.

7.    You forget about the specific needs of your indoor plants.

Under improper transportation, the green plants are exposed to a risk of damage or withering. If you are taking them with you in your new home, take care of their transportation so they can safely arrive there. Otherwise, you may need to throw them due to improper transporting. Sift the plants from the fragile pots into a light, non-fragile vessel. If the moving task becomes difficult, think of an option for giving them away to your friends or family.

8.    You haven’t cleaned your home of all the items you don’t need.

What if you find out that your home contains piles of belongings you haven’t used for years? If you don’t pay attention to this, at some stage you might be in a position of paying to the removal company to pack and transport them, and after unpacking them, you will have no idea where to put them in your new home. Eventually, if you find a place to keep them, there is a huge possibility to find the same pile unused again the next time you move or carry out repairs. That’s why we recommend considering this question before you start packing your belongings – throw the ones you don’t need, sell them, give them away, give them for scraps or just think of a new function of the items you don’t usually use. You might be surprised.
